The Wadi Rum desert may seem familiar to movie buffs because films such as Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Prometheus (2012), The Martian (2015), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

Rub ‘al Khali is the largest continuous sand desert in the world, covering much of the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula. Known for its “hyper arid climate and travel difficulty”, The Empty Quarter covers parts of Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman and the United Arab Emirates. Also Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) was shot there.

Where was the interiors of Dune filmed?

Shooting of the interiors of Dunes they were mainly shot in the Origo Studios in Budapest, one of the largest film studios in all of Europe. Opened in 2010, Villeneuve had already toured there Blade Runner 2049 (2017).
