MTV EMA 2021: Måneskin, Damiano on stage in suspenders reminds us that gender stereotypes are over

THE Måneskin they made history to MTV EMA 2021, when on the stage of Papp László in Budapast, the band received the Best Rock category award, beating real holy monsters like Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Imagine Dragons and The Killers.

AND first time in the history of the award ceremony that Italy triumphs in the category, the recognition goes to a band that has become symbol of freedom for Gen Z all over the world, through the lyrics of the songs and the explosive aesthetics with which, every time, they pulverize gender stereotypes.

Because that’s how real performers do it, let’s call it Lady Gaga school, it’s not about singing a message out loud, you have to be the message itself, embodying it with your body.

And that was exactly what happened on the stage in Budapest, when Damiano he showed up with studded briefs and suspenders, reminded us that gender stereotypes are over. A fabulous provocation, still signed Gucci, of a band that wants to live in a world free from the toxicity of classic masculinity.

Damiano, Victoria, Ethan and Thomas will not stay Shut up and Good until they have fulfilled their mission and said it loudly in the speech with which they accepted the award:

This year, in particular, it is necessary be proud of our country for the results achieved not only by us, but by many sportsmen and cultural figures“said Damiano on stage. Then he added:”Too bad for the civil rights, where we continue to stay behind: and instead it would have been the most important victory“.

The reference, of course, to the rejection of the ddl Zan by the Parliament. A speech that takes on a double meaning, because it is pronounced in front of the audience of Budapest, in Hungary, where the government of Victor Orban introduced rules that further restrict the rights of the LGBTQ + community .
