BRUSSELS, AUGUST 13 – The EU Commission convenes a meeting dedicated to the situation of the flow of migrants in the central Mediterranean, and in particular to Italy – the most affected country – for August 31. It is learned from European sources. The meeting will be attended by Member State authorities and European agencies and will discuss search and rescue operations at sea, and relocations. The initiative – organized within the framework of the network on preparation in the management of flows – comes after the contacts between the head of the Interior Ministry, Luciana Lamorgese, and the EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs, Ylva Johansson. “The new pact on migration and asylum contains structural and predictable frameworks to face the search and rescue” of migrants at sea, “with effective solidarity and clear responsibilities. Pending the urgent conclusion of the ongoing negotiations, the European Commission continues to request and coordinate the voluntary support of all Member States for Italy. I am in close contact with Minister Lamorgese ”, Johansson explained to ANSA. (HANDLE).
