Microsoft Loop: a new app for Office arrives

Microsoft today announced “Microsoft Loop”, a new application of the Microsoft Office package. The app is designed to have remote working as a specific focus.

As reported by The Verge, Microsoft’s Fluid technology is centered around “collaborative Office content blocks that can live independently and be copied, pasted and shared with others”. The new application Microsoft Loop is an extension of this experience:

Just like Fluid, Microsoft Loop has three main elements: Loop components, Loop pages, and Loop workspaces. Loop components are live content that can exist across multiple apps, updated in real time and free for anyone to access. It could be a shared list in a Teams channel or a note in a calendar entry that can be pasted into Outlook and edited in real time within an email.

These components can also exist in the main Microsoft Loop Hub, within what Microsoft calls shared Loop workspaces. It’s almost like a project board, where you can see a list of all the Loop components and who is currently working on them. It is almost a modern File Explorer, where everything is live and collaborative.

Microsoft Loop, a new app that moves freely between applications, allowing teams to think, plan and create together. You can organize everything you need for your project (files, links and data from other apps) in a single workspace. As for availability, it will start appearing in Teams, Outlook and OneNote as early as this month. The dedicated application will be released in the future.
