MILAN, 22 NOV – The Mediobanca Group renews its commitment to combat climate change through two goals: joining the Net-Zero Banking Alliance and neutralizing its direct emissions for the 2020/21 financial year. Both commitments are consistent with the Group’s Sustainability Policy and with the ESG Policy. The participation of the Mediobanca Group in the Net-Zero Banking Alliance, the initiative promoted by the United Nations with the aim of accelerating the sustainable transition of the international banking sector, confirms the desire to “be an active part in the green transition”. In recent years, the Mediobanca Group has embarked on a path aimed at reducing its direct emissions which has led, also in fiscal year 2020/21, to the neutralization of “non-reducible greenhouse gas emissions”, a sharp decline compared to the previous year . The decarbonization initiative, promoted in collaboration with Rete Clima, has allowed Mediobanca to support two international projects: one hydroelectric in India and one Redd + in Brazil, aimed respectively at the generation of clean energy and the conservation of an area of the Amazon rainforest. . Mediobanca also confirmed its support for a forestry project that this year will involve the Madonie Park in the province of Palermo, devastated by fires last summer. In collaboration with Rete Clima, over 1,000 trees will be planted and maintained in spring 2022, thanks also to the active participation of the Group’s employees. “We believe that the entire banking system plays a fundamental role in the green transition”, says Alberto Nagel, CEO of Mediobanca.
