Iran: trust in Parliament to Raisi’s government

TEHRAN, 25 AUG – The Iranian Parliament tonight granted the confidence to 18 of the 19 ministers proposed by the new fundamentalist president Ebrahim Raisi for his government, after five days of debate. The only rejection of the Tehran Assembly, also with a fundamentalist majority, concerns Hossein Baghgoli, who had been designated for Education. Raisi will now have three months to propose a replacement to the Majlis. The new executive is made up entirely of men, many of whom come from the ranks of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards or have had experience of government under former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
