The new Huawei FreeBuds 4i are characterized by high sound quality, fast charging and the presence of an effective ANC system. Let’s find out in our full review.
Solid and reliable audio quality
The strong point of these headphones is definitely the system ANC for the active noise cancellation. This system works very well and manages to isolate effectively from external noises, buzz and disturbances. The audio quality therefore benefits a lot as it is possible to focus solely on listening. The passive isolation, by choosing the best earmuff according to the shape of your ear, is already well optimized but clearly the ANC system is definitely recommended in a multitude of cases.
In any case, the sound is fine balanced between mids and highs even if there is a very slight lack of bass. The trick to emphasize the bass is easy to say: turn up the volume. It seems trivial but these headphones sound better at higher volumes while they are slightly more uncertain at low volumes.
Pop is guaranteed!
Technical data in hand. The earphones, with 10mm dynamic drivers, have a very flexible and powerful “PEEK + PU” polymer diaphragm, which allows high sensitivity and a rich dynamic response. Indeed, as promised at the presentation stage, these earphones are designed to meet the needs of fans of pop music. The tuning team combined different instruments, rhythms and vocal styles to adjust the sound quality to match the frequency of pop music. In this way, the earphones deliver balanced audio suitable for the daily needs of most users.
Awareness mode: useful or not?
Most notable is the mode Awareness (i.e. Transparency) that allows you to easily listen to the surrounding environment without having to remove the earphones. The listening modes can be controlled with a simple gesture on the headset and you can easily switch from ANC mode, to ANC off mode, to Awareness mode. Thanks to the AI Life app, available on the Huawei AppGallery for users with Huawei Mobile Services and Google Mobile Services devices, you can better customize the way you use FreeBuds 4i.
From our tests, we can be satisfied with the three listening modes available, although we would have expected more clarity from the mode Awareness.

When using the FreeBuds 4i earphones with Huawei smartphones (EMUI 10.0 or later), quick pairing is also supported with a pop-up that will be displayed when the case is opened. During pairing, the battery information of the earbuds and the charging case will be displayed immediately.
Also comfortable for long listening sessions
The headset is designed and manufactured to guarantee comfort and ergonomics. The headphones are therefore super light so as to reduce the pressure even for long listening sessions. The earphones hold very well to the ear and offer maximum comfort, clearly paired with the right rubber tip. Even those who, like me, do not particularly appreciate the in-ear variants will be fully satisfied by the comfort of these headphones that are really minimally invasive.
Fast charging works wonders
The built-in battery in the earphones is really good and reaches up to 10 hours of autonomy (music playback) with ANC deactivated. During our tests, even with ANC active we managed to overcome 7 hours in mixed music and some calls. With ANC deactivated it is possible to exceed even 6 hours of call.
But the real gem of this product is related to the fast charge which, via the USB-C connector, provides up to 4 hours of use with a charge of only 10 minutes, a really interesting value for those who are always in a hurry.
Essential and clean design
The design is minimal and clean, it is characterized by a uniform glossy finish both on the charging case and on the individual earphones. The oval shape of the case conveys a valid sensation of compactness and is also comfortable in your pocket. The manual pairing button is well hidden while, fortunately, a status LED is available on the front. The headphones are of the in-ear type and are compact and light, so as not to weigh during the most intense uses. We only had the opportunity to try the white variant but we recommend that you also keep in mind the Honey Red color, very special.
And the calls?
Calls flow smoothly and without the slightest problem. There are no difficulties in listening and, thanks to the good optimization of the microphones, even the interlocutor listens very well. To guarantee these results, the Huawei FreeBuds 4i take advantage of a dual slot microphone system so as to effectively remove even wind noise. The integrated AI then helps to pick up the voice clearly even with background noise and hum.
