PORT-AU-PRINCE, AUG 16 – The government of Haiti, in emergency due to the damage caused by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that shook the south-western provinces of the island, issued a yellow alert last night for the imminent passage of cyclone Grace, downgraded for now to storm. This was reported by the news portal Haiti24.net. According to the Florida National Hurricane Center (NHC), Grace yesterday lost some of her strength and was downgraded from a tropical storm to a tropical depression. It is currently transiting through Puerto Rico, where heavy rains are recorded in the western region of the country. Its passage over the northern provinces of Haiti, the latest bulletin of the NHC indicates, will take place today at the end of the day. The storm is accompanied by winds up to 55 km / h and by heavy rains which in certain circumstances may cause rivers to overflow, floods and landslides. (HANDLE).
