Google introduced the mid-range Pixel 5a in August, lagging behind the normal schedule and limited to the US and Japan. Today, the first renders of the next Pixel 6a have emerged, thanks to @OnLeaks.
The new mid-range of the company will inherit the design that we have recently seen on the top of the range of the Pixel 6 series. Unlike the latter, however, it will be more compact. The smartphone will be equipped with a 6.2-inch flat OLED display with a central hole, a reduction from the Pixel 5a’s 6.34-inch screen. The fingerprint sensor will be placed under the display.
The renders also show the presence of the Bar room in the back, similar to that of the Pixel 6, but slightly smaller. It is said to be equipped with the same camera from 50 megapixels with Samsung GN1 sensor of the Pixel 6 along with a 12 megapixel ultra-wide angle lens. Absent the 3.5 mm audio jack, which is instead present in the 5a.
Overall dimensions are 152.2 x 71.8 x 8.7 ~ 10.4mm (including camera bump) making it slightly thicker than the 5a. The smartphone could therefore feature a larger battery than the Pixel 5a’s 4,680 mAh battery.
The Google Pixel 6a is expected to be introduced next year, probably around the months of June / July, with Android 12 or even Android 12L. We hope that this time the smartphone will be launched in more markets, unlike what happened with the Pixel 5a.
