Google also fell for it. No charger in the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro boxes.
Google has already half-announced its next flagship smartphones, Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, although the full presentation is scheduled for autumn, we know pretty much everything there is to know about these smartphones. Yesterday, the company made official the Pixel 5a mid-range and also took the opportunity to reveal a new detail on the upcoming Pixel 6 series.
Neither the Google Pixel 6 nor Pixel 6 Pro will ship with a charger in the box. Google is therefore following in the footsteps of Apple and Samsung.
The Pixel 5a is therefore the latest Google phone to include a charger in the box. Google has stated that most people already have a USB-C charger, so it no longer makes sense to include one. Like Apple and Samsung, Google has not stated that this simple move will apparently allow the company to save a few bucks in production.
It will be interesting to see if Chinese phone makers ever follow this trend, as much of their marketing is focused on charging speed, and to get all those incredibly fast top-ups you need to use the charger and cable in the box. See Oppo, Xiaomi or OnePlus for example with their ultra fast recharges. The investment in very fast wired charging could be just what will keep chargers in the sales boxes of Chinese smartphones. At least for now.
In the case of Google, its products have never been among the fastest to load, and the same is true for both Apple and Samsung, so all of that is pretty legitimate. We’ll see how on the market will move under this juncture.
Are you for or against the charger in the boxes? Do you use the official charger and cable of the new smartphone or do you have one and always use the same one? Remember that the comments box is always at your disposal if you want to interact with us directly.
