Ecuador: prison clashes, 68 dead and 25 wounded


QUITO, NOV 14 – The provisional toll of the clashes that took place last night in the El Litoral prison in Guayaquil (southern Ecuador) between inmates in various pavilions has risen to 68 dead and 25 wounded. Providing the update on the victims, reports the news portal Primicias, the Prosecutor’s Office announced the opening of an investigation into the clashes, which ended several hours after the start yesterday afternoon with the entry into the detention center of 400 agents of police, while another 300 took up positions outside. The difficulty in restoring order was also determined by the fact that during the riots many inmates had left their cells with weapons and sticks of dynamite used to tear down the partition walls of the pavilions.
