Canary eruption: lava in the sea, 3,000 locked in the house

MADRID, 22 NOV – The Canarian authorities have ordered part of the population of the municipality of Tazacorte, on the island of La Palma, to stay indoors after a lava flow from the Cumbre Vieja volcano reaches the sea. The order is aimed at around 3,000 people, according to radio Cadena Ser and the newspaper El PaĆs. This is a measure taken as a precaution due to the possibility that contact between magma and sea water causes “emissions of gases that are harmful to health”, the authorities explained. Meanwhile, La Palma airport remains “inoperative” for the moment due to the accumulation of volcanic ash on the runways. (HANDLE).
