Bank of Italy: North triggers recovery but South gap does not increase

ROME, 04 NOV – The North is driving the recovery of the post-pandemic Italian economy. According to the report on the regional economies of the Bank of Italy, based on the quarterly indicator of the regional economy (ITER) “the recovery was more marked in the North than in the rest of the country”. The areas of the North, however, had recorded a greater fall in the product. The negative effects of the pandemic therefore affected all the macro-areas, not increasing the structural gaps existing between the South and the rest of Italy. And the PNRR measures for the development of digital will be crucial to bridge the lag of the southern regions on all indicators in a country that is also in 25th place out of 28 countries in the general indicator and last for digital skills.
