WASHINGTON, 22 NOV – The tragic episode that saw an SUV hit a Christmas parade in Wisconsin yesterday afternoon is at least 5 dead and 40 injured. Among the people involved are numerous children. Authorities are still trying to understand the circumstances in which an SUV crashed into the crowd gathered for a Christmas parade in Waukesha yesterday afternoon. “We can confirm that 5 people have died and 40 injured”, reports the local police on their Facebook page, stating that “this toll could change as we continue to gather information”. He later confirmed that a suspect was arrested and taken to jail. The incident occurred around 4:30 pm yesterday. “The Waukesha Christmas Parade was underway when a red SUV broke down the barriers on the west side and headed for Main Street (the main street),” Police Chief Dan Thompson said at a news conference. The police – he added – shot the vehicle in an attempt to stop it. Schools and some streets will remain closed today to allow for better investigations, Thompson said. The incident occurred at the end of a turbulent week in Wisconsin, where a young American, Kyle Rittenhouse, was acquitted in recent days of having shot two men last year during anti-violence protests that resulted in riots.
