Afghanistan: Maas, we won’t be able to take everyone away

BERLIN, 24 AUGUST – “I don’t think we will be able to get all those who intend to leave” by 31 August: the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said in reference to Germany’s Afghan collaborators, in an interview with Bild-tv . “We are in contact with 100 German citizens and their families and we are trying to get them to the airport in a reasonably safe way today and then distribute them on one of our planes,” continued the minister. Military planes have taken 3,650 people away from Kabul so far and 944 were evacuated yesterday alone, the German Defense Ministry announced via Twitter. “We continue to fly as long as possible,” reads the Defense account.
