Afghanistan: China rejects sanctions, ‘they are counterproductive’

BEIJING, 24 AUG – China rejects the hypothesis of sanctions on Afghanistan, defined as “counterproductive”, rejecting a proposal by the British Foreign Minister, Dominc Raab, contained in an intervention published by the Telegraph. “The international community should encourage and push the Afghan situation in a positive direction,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said, noting support for “peaceful reconstruction” and improving livelihoods and well-being. “Arbitrary sanctions against the Taliban will not solve the problem in Afghanistan,” Wang added in the daily briefing.
